This project involved rebuilding retaining walls from the natural stones found on-site. Initially the site was just a steep slope packed with stones to hold the soil. We dug out the stones and prepared the area for an ALD makeover! We built a retaining wall at the lowest level and then dry packed the remaining three retaining walls, each about 1m in height, creating four terraces with a large levelled area nearest the Liesbeek river. We constructed a fire pit and screeded the existing upper tier to create an informal seating area away from the main house. Predominantly indigenous plants were used, with some exotics to accent the site with unique colours and scents. CLICK HERE TO GET A QUOTE
Here’s what the client had to say.
Mark transformed an unstructured, unused slope on our property into a garden that is both beautiful and the envy of all our neighbours. He managed to make the Liesbeek a part of our property by carefully designing, building and planting beautifully crafted stone terraces, complementing our house design. We now derive a huge amount of pleasure from the fragrant waterwise garden, before a wasted space. It was a pleasure to witness his enthusiasm, careful planning, dedication and attention to detail in every aspect of the project. Every plant was carefully selected and placed in its right place. Mark left no stone unturned, so to speak, to source the right plants and trees, consulting with us throughout. We found him both creative and very knowledgeable and we have no hesitation in recommending African Landscape Design.
